Just 11 minutes ago, a 4.3 magnitude earthquake struck near Sitia, Lassithi, Crete, Greece. The tremor was recorded in the early evening on Friday, October 1, 2021, at 6:43 p.m. local time, at a shallow depth of 10 km below the surface.
The event was classified by the Athens National Observatory (NOA), the first seismological agency to report it.
Based on preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused significant damage, but was likely felt by many as a slight vibration in the epicenter area.
Weak tremors could have been felt in Palekastro (1,100 inhabitants) located 47 km from the epicenter.
