Greece aims to attract tourists throughout the year after being announced as the best destination for 2021 in the EU
The World Travel Awards have selected Greece as the top destination for Europe in 2021. Following the news, Greece’s Tourism Minister Vassilis Kikilias said the country has presented a well-managed tourism situation amid the pandemic and proved that it was the most beautiful and safe destination.
Moreover, Kikilias revealed that the island intends to attract tourists all year round and advised professionals to prepare for a strong year 2022, reports SchengenVisaInfo.com.

In addition to this, the Greek minister also visited Rhodes, where he met the regional governor of the South Aegean Sea, George Chatzimarkos, the mayor of Rhodes, Antonis Kampourakis, the deputies of the Dodecanese, Manos Konsolas and Vassilis Ypsilantis and other representatives of the island.
According to the minister, from May 13 to October 17, which represents the summer season, including the start and end of the season, around 1,339,218 visitors were registered in Rhodes. In addition, from October 1 to 17, representing the fall season, 163,997 visitors were recorded, an increase of 203.6% over the previous year.
An increase of such a range has also been noted in the number of visitors to Kos, as in October 2020, around 28,907 visitors were recorded in the region. This year, the number increased 171 percent, reaching around 78,358 arrivals.
“Tourism is the locomotive of the Greek economy, something that proves again this year, in the midst of the pandemic, and brings new jobs that we aspire to be of better quality and better paid, allow thanks to the 320 million euros of RRF from the Ministry of Tourism for infrastructures, ports, marinas, modernization of hotel units, for digitization, green development and a sustainable system of sustainable tourism product ”, said the Minister of Tourism.
Additionally, South Aegean Governor Chatmizarkos noted that the Greek islands have almost reached pre-pandemic tourism data. He also noted that the reopening and resumption of the tourism plan included timely and targeted promotion, cooperation and responsible work, showing how hospitable the Greek population is.
On the other hand, the mayor of Rhodes underlined the organization of the vaccination program, as the centers to offer the service to the people. Greece has the highest number of recognized vaccines, a fact that has also helped the tourism sector, as travelers from several countries have been vaccinated with different vaccines.
Mayor Kampourakis added that around 95 percent of income comes from tourism in Rhodes and the South Aegean region.
