Egypt and Greece on Tuesday signed an agreement to link the two countries through the construction of an undersea cable, the Egyptian cabinet said in a statement.

The agreement was signed in Cairo by Telecom Egypt, the first integrated telecommunications operator in the North African country, and Grid Telecom, a subsidiary of the independent Greek electricity transmission operator (ADMIE), according to the press release. .

The new cable is part of a system of submarine cables stretching across the Mediterranean Sea, he said.
