Greek Gaming Commission assesses offers for two new casino licenses

Reee Gaming Commission announced on Tuesday that he is in the process of evaluating the files of two new casinos to be built in the country, located in Athens and Crete.

The Athens-based property will be built as part of the Ellinikon urban development complex in the southern part of the city. The casino plan, called Inspire Athens, will be built by GEK Terna, with Mohegan Gaming and Entertainment. The 1 billion euros of project will also include a five-star luxury hotel with almost 3,500 beds, as well as exhibition and meeting spaces. The Gaming Commission is expected to issue the permit for the project by the end of the week.

The a second casino will be built on the Gournes site on the north shore of Crete, which is being privatized. The country’s privatization office, HRADF, announced that it has received four offers for the development of the site, which will include a license for a mixed-use casino and a resort facility.

The 345,000 square meter land in Gournes is located on the site of a former US military base near Crete’s largest city and port, Heraklion.

Club Hotel Casino Loutraki SA – Lyktos Holdings SA, Dimand SA, Reds SA and one of the Luxembourg real estate company Vivion Investments have submitted their offers. Negotiations between the Gaming Commission and potential investors have already started.

“The review of the submitted documentation to verify that it meets the conditions specified in the RFP will begin immediately. Shortly thereafter, the HRADF Board of Directors will unseal the financial offers in accordance with the applicable procedure. HRADF may further request enhanced financial offers in accordance with the rules of the tendering process, ”HRADF said in a statement.

There is currently 9 casinos in Greece, located across the continent and on the greek islands of Rhodes, Syros and Corfu.
