Metacon in partnership for the creation of a hydrogen village in Greece

Metacon The Helbio unit has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with DEDA, PowerCell and Soluforce for the creation of a “Hydrogen Village” Demonstration and experimentation park for innovative hydrogen-based energy systems.

The memorandum of understanding involves the establishment of cooperation between the four companies, aimed at developing the project towards a “Hydrogen Village“. In the project, several energy technical solutions involving gas as the main resource, reforming gas into hydrogen and the production of electricity for households via fuel cells will be evaluated and tested. The first Hydrogen Village targets quantifying benefits related to energy efficiency, reduced GHG emissions and other environmental parameters.

The plan is that the entire project should display a high degree of automation and little or no need for personnel involved in the operation. The control software and system automation procedures allowing start-up, steady-state operation and shutdown procedures should be performed automatically, without requiring user intervention and thus resulting in a fully self-contained and self-contained system. Automatique. Monitoring of the operation will be done remotely. DEDA will play the key role of facilitator for the project and the parties will also jointly seek financial support from government and other sources.

Enabling the transition to a future sustainable hydrogen economy will require concrete practical initiatives from key players in the energy sector. I am therefore extremely happy to see this initiative by DEDA, one of the main national energy and gas suppliers in Greeceshowing leadership towards models of non-polluting and climate-friendly societies.” noted Christer WiknerPresident and CEO of Metacon.

Sir. Marios Tsakas, CEO of DEDA said in a statement; “We are excited about the opportunities in this area and very pleased with the partnership we have managed to create to move towards achieving the Hydrogen Village concept. It is clear that the prospects for building new Gas to Hydrogen to Electricity solutions offer fantastic possibilities for hydrogen as a source of both fuel for vehicles and electricity for societies, independent of the electricity grid.“.

On Metacon AB (publication)

Metacon AB (publ) develops and manufactures energy systems for the production of hydrogen, heat and electricity. The products are based on a patented technology which, through the so-called catalytic steam reforming of biogas or other hydrocarbons, generates hydrogen. The development of Metacon the reforming of products is done within the 100% subsidiary Helbio, a spin-off of the University of Patras, Greece and was founded by Professor Xenophon Verykios in 2001. From the start, the company focused on catalysts and advanced reforming for high yield hydrogen production.

Metacon also offers system solutions for the production of hydrogen by electrolysis, an important and growing field worldwide for the small and large scale production of green hydrogen. Electrolysis is a process of starting and driving a chemical reaction to split water by adding electricity. If the electricity used is non-fossil and green, the hydrogen will also become completely climate-neutral and green. Green hydrogen can be used, for example, in the transport sector, basic industry and the real estate sector, resulting in a better environment and climate.

About DEDA

DEDA was created in 2017 as a subsidiary of the Public gas company DEPA Infrastructure SA (DEPA, DEDA owns, develops, operates and maintains the gas distribution networks in the majority of Greece, ensuring an economical, reliable, safe and uninterrupted energy supply. With a plan to expand a 1.8 km hydrogen-ready pipeline, DEPA is involved in a variety of hydrogen technologies to support national net zero emissions goals. DEPA and, consequently, DEDA, are currently in an ongoing privatization process and, according to the plan, will become part of the European energy company Italgasa major Italian gas distributor, also heavily involved in innovative hydrogen projects

On PowerCell Sweden AB (publisher)

PowerCell Sweden AB (publisher) develops and produces fuel cells and systems for stationary and mobile applications with world-class energy density. Fuel cells run on hydrogen, pure or reformed, and produce electricity and heat with no emissions other than water. Because the stacks and systems are compact, modular and scalable, they easily adapt to any customer needs. PowerCell was founded in 2008 as an industrial spin-out from the Volvo Group. The stock (PCELL) has been traded on Nasdaq First North Growth Market Stockholm since 2014.

About Soluforce

SoluForce is the initiator and technological leader of high pressure flexible composite pipe systems (FCP or RTP) for hydrogen applications. The SoluForce FCP has been certified for hydrogen applications up to 42 bar operating pressure – unique in the world of hydrogen transport and a world first. With significantly lower CO2 eq. compared to alternatives, this off-the-shelf pipeline solution has a major impact on the feasibility of (green) hydrogen and a sustainable energy mix.
