Moderate magnitude 4.4 earthquake strikes 80 km southwest of Pýrgos, Greece in early evening / Volcano

A magnitude 4.4 earthquake near Pýrgos, Ilia Prefecture, Western Greece, Greece, was reported just 9 minutes ago by the German Geoscience Research Center (GFZ ), considered one of the leading international agencies monitoring seismic activity around the world. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 10 km below the epicenter in the early evening on Saturday April 24, 2021 at 7:17 p.m. local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter and depth of the quake could be revised in the coming hours or minutes, as seismologists review the data and refine their calculations, or when other agencies release their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the Athens National Observatory (NOA) which listed the earthquake at a magnitude of 3.9. A third agency, the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC), reported the same 4.0 magnitude earthquake.
Based on preliminary seismic data, the earthquake should not have caused significant damage, but was likely felt by many people to be slight vibrations in the epicenter area.
A weak shaking could have been felt in Marathopolis (880 inhabitants), located 53 km from the epicenter, and in Filiatra (7,000 inhabitants) at 55 km.
Other towns close to the epicenter where the earthquake could have been felt as very weak tremors include Gargalianoi (6,300 inhabitants) located 58 km from the epicenter, Kyparissia (5,000 inhabitants) at 65 km, Chora (3,500 inhabitants ) 65 km further, Pylos (2,300 inhabitants) 66 km, Pyrgos (22,400 inhabitants) 80 km and Amaliada (16,800 inhabitants) 88 km.
