“Hydrotests are carried out in stages, which begin after all other mandatory non-destructive testing of the already welded pipeline has been carried out. Pending the entry into commercial operation of the interconnection, a certain number of other procedures must be carried out, including tests with the transport of real quantities of natural gas to ensure compliance with all safety standards and confirm sustainability. infrastructure over time.
In October, the project company ICGB, which is responsible for the implementation of the interconnection, successfully underwent the fourth independent audit planned in the construction phase, which is carried out by the foreign company RSK Ltd. within the framework of loan financing from the European Investment Bank (EIB). Due to the enhanced control required under the EIB financing, the project company is subject to a total of 6 social and environmental audits during the construction phase of the IGB project and several follow-up inspections after commissioning. During the audit, independent experts carried out detailed inspections of the gas pipeline in the territory of Greece and Bulgaria. All ongoing construction activities were inspected, as well as the implementation of crossings under the Maritsa river bed and under the “Studen Kladenets” dam.
